Matthew A.B. Hickey


Matthew A.B. Hickey was born in Oshawa, and attended St. Stephens Secondary School in Bowmanville before heading to Toronto for University. At the University of Toronto, he obtained degrees in Business Management and an Arts Degree with a Double Major focused on Political Science and History. Matt graduated from University of Toronto with High Distinction.

Matt moved on to London, Ontario, attending Western Law. While there, he was active in the Community Legal Clinic and Moot Competitions focused on Litigation and Criminal Defence. He earned his Juris Doctor in 2012. Matt articled with an experienced Criminal Defence lawyer in Toronto and was called to the bar in 2013.

Before joining Creighton Law in 2016, Matt was a sole practitioner with work in both Toronto and Durham Region. He maintains a focus on litigation with experience in Criminal Defence work, Family Court, and Civil Litigation. He has appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice, the Superior Court of Justice, and Small Claims Court on a wide variety of matters.

Matt’s clients appreciate his dedicated approach to their issues, and his understanding that each case is unique to each person and deserves a committed advocate. He believes that the best way to assist his clients is by giving plain spoken and practical legal advice combined with firm advocacy in the courtroom.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys an active relationship with the basketball community in Southern Ontario, playing, coaching, and officiating for many years. In the summer months, you might meet him canoeing on a lake or river near Algonquin Park.
