Make sure your marital agreement is legal and binding

Marital contracts are important for people who are getting married in Ontario. Many people think that these contracts are only for people who are rich or famous. This isn't the case. A marriage contract is important for anyone who is getting married because you can't see what is going to happen in the future.

Retroactive child support payments for adults might be possible

Child support is a way for a non-custodial parent to help take care of a child. The court orders these payments, but not all parents take the obligation seriously. In some cases, a non-custodial parent will opt to not pay the child support payments. Once the child becomes an adult, the non-paying parent might think he or she is off the hook for the child support. That might not be the case.

Common law relationships aren't the same as marriages

The end of a relationship is a rough time for anyone. If you have been in a common-law relationship and the relationship ends, you might want to know your rights. It is important to know that you don't have the same rights as a married couple, so you shouldn't turn to divorce law to determine what might happen. We understand that you likely have some questions that you need answered. We are here to help you get answers that allow you to make decisions about the end of the relationship.
